Located
in the central mountains of Colorado, Snowmass is the
largest of four ski areas that make up Aspen/Snowmass.
With 3,010 acres of skiing and snowboarding, Snowmass
offers plenty of fun for every ability level. The mountain's
22 lifts include seven high-speed quads serving runs up
to five miles long and the country's longest lift-served
vertical rise of 4,406 feet.
The Big Burn, with its mile-wide intermediate trails,
represents the kind of skiing that made Snowmass famous.
This vast mountain, however, also offers extensive expert
terrain (38%) as well as chutes, glades and gulches in
areas such as Hanging Valley and the Cirque (lift-served
to 12,510 feet). Our favorite statistical tidbit is that
Snowmass typically entertains just 2.5 skiers per acre,
on average.
Skiers enjoy free bus transportation during each day in
winter between Aspen Mountain (Ajax), Aspen Highlands,
Buttermilk and Snowmass Ski Areas, all of which are included
on the same 4-mountain lift ticket.
Should
you wish to take a day or two off from skiing, try
some of the many other activities available in the
area, such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing,
snowmobiling, dog sled rides, hot air balloon rides,
winter fly fishing, tubing, ice skating or shopping.
